Bringing French Language Lessons To Life With Help Of Business Language Champions

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

You may recall the French language lessons from your school days - filled with monotonous verb chanting and the almost inaudible sound of an over-enthusiastic French gent trying to book a train ticket to La Rochelle crackling out of the cassette player on the teacher’s desk. Yes it was fun, but did we really know the point to all those listening tests and verb books?

Without being able to assign a purpose to our French language lessons I suppose we were unable to see how these skills would benefit us in the real world. Unless we wanted to be teachers or translators we could not see the relevance of language skills but the truth is that languages are beneficial across all careers and today there are many ways in which to get this message across to students.

To persuade more young people to continue learning languages we must make them applicable, so irrespective of the career paths they choose, they realise the validity of these skills to their advancement. One of the best methods for creating this awareness is to bring the world of work into the classroom and run workshops with business people during timetabled French language lessons.

Workshops and other business-related visits can be arranged through initiatives such as the Business Language Champions programme, which partners schools with local businesses to raise awareness of the importance of language skills in the workplace and encourage youngsters to study languages at GCSE level and beyond.

The ‘Business Language Champion’ will be able to share his or her experience of learning a language as well as explaining the importance of language skills to their working day and career as a whole. By adding a fun, interactive element to the French language lesson - be that a quiz or competition using language skills - it really drums home what the business person is trying to say.

You will probably find that the Business Language Champions are repeating the advice given by teachers - about the importance of language skills - but the fact that it comes from a ‘real’ business person gives the message more weight.

By making our French language lessons more relevant to the ‘real’ world of work and utilising the skills and experience of local Business Language Champions we can give a purpose to the verb chanting and inspire more young people to keep up these skills which will benefit not only their own future employability but the economy as a whole.

Methodically Learn French Language

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

There is really only one way to learn the French language and that is to simply practice your hearts out by speaking it with others. I am an immersion student in the Eastern part of Canada and I can say that learning French has been one of the most exciting things that my life has been offered. Schools here teach it in elementary up to high school so there is no real hassle in learning the French language.

A lot of people when they begin taking French classes or begin the process of teaching themselves French think it is going to be easy. However, French is one of the most difficult languages to learn for two main reasons. French has 10 times the amount of verbs and literal meanings as the English language does. Teaching yourself French or learning it in a classroom can be very hard and not always easy. Although French has its ups, like, for instance, speaking your way through the heart of France or charming one of your lady friends at dinner, it can be very frustrating and depressing during the beginning of the learning process.

When learning French in schools or a class, it’s very important to practice your verbs and literal meanings. These two linguistic factors come into play all the time when learning the French language.

Verbs will be very hard and difficult to understand at various points in your education. Don’t be afraid though. Once you tackle the basic verbs, you can have a basic understanding of each and every other verb.

One of my best friends during immersion was a little hard covered book called Bescherelle. It played a big help in teaching me all the verbs in the French language. If it was not a mandatory book for my class, I wouldn’t have known about it and probably would’ve failed most of my verb tests without it.

You will have a harder time teaching yourself how to learn the French language. The most important thing is to speak with your friends and family, show them each day what you taught yourself and explain things to them in French and then translate into English if you have to. Speaking the French language will help you with writing and reading it. Most people beg to differ, but I, as a first person learner, know what to do when it comes to learning the French language.

My personal learning experience of the French language has been really surprising. I have found out many different things about the French culture and how it has been changed. I learned all about the French revolution which increased my understanding of French history. This has improved my studies and helped improve my understanding of the French language.

Learning French can be a pain in the butt so I thought I would give some additional tips to those of you who would like to take their learning experience to the next level. There are some good resources online that can help you immensely. You can try using an online French translator or an online French dictionary to aid you in the learning process. Also please learn the French language at your own pace. Don’t try to learn too many things at once because this can be nerve wrecking. I already mentioned this but it is worth mentioning again. I highly recommend the Bescherelle. Please purchase this book. It is worth it.

Focus On Grammar Helps With Teaching English

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Focus on Grammar is a very well known textbook series created to teach students English. Irene E. Schoenberg is the author of these books and Pearson Longman is the publisher. This is the 3rd edition of this series and there are 5 levels varying from beginner to experienced.

It does focus primarily on grammar and gives lots of exercises. However, it also gives people a chance to write and speak that grammar in a conversational style.

She deals with all facets of grammar and uses a question and answer format for her exercises. The questions begin with a simple fill-in-the-blank and then go on to get progressively more difficult. Editing written work and grammar structures is also stressed.

The chapters start by displaying the subject of grammar using a reading selection. These lessons are patterned after real life situations like newspapers, email, memos, or movie reviews. This is specifically valuable for teachers since it offers a reading activity that concentrates mainly on a certain grammar subject.

For instance, one type of reading deals with the film, “It’s a Wonderful Life” and the way it applies the 3rd conditional. During the text, examples for the 3rd conditional are highlighted in bold so the students can it see it clearly. The books include an audio CD for students, which is used for listening activities. Also, an interactive CD-Rom can be bought at an additional cost. These extra supplies offer more advantages to the series.

This series of books are excellent in that they help the student learn English grammar on their own. It is also a valuable resource for those who teach English Language. It would be good idea of English language schools to include this in their library.

The explanations are superb with many examples. The exercises cover all major verb tenses, conditional sentences, prepositions, nouns and all other aspects of English grammar. I have no hesitation in choosing this series of books for my ESL course.

The one disadvantage to the Focus on Grammar series is that they use a serious method, which makes this somewhat inappropriate for children. They are geared more to adult English students. Adults who care very much about improving their English abilities will think this series is very helpful. Generally, Focus on Grammar is one of the most educational titles in the ESL textbook group. Anybody who teaches ESL or is a student in the course will be happy with these books.

The Perfect Spanish Verb Conjugator: What Features Should It Have?

Friday, February 19th, 2010

For anybody who is learning Spanish and maintains any hopes of ever communicating in the language fluently, it is important that you learn how to conjugate and conjoin Spanish language verbs. As somebody who has accomplished a fully conversational level of Spanish via studying on my own, I have a distinct image of exactly what options the ideal romance language verb conjugator must have. In this article I’ll speak about 3 of the attributes, strengths and also benefits of the ultimate Spanish verb conjugator.

Above all, the best verb conjugator for the Spanish language student, must have audio tracks featuring native Spanish speakers. Without sound, there is no way that you are able to be unquestionably sure that you’ll be learning an authentic Latin American Spanish accent. Audio also helps engage the student in order that the wearying task connected with mastering the way to conjugate verbs becomes a fun as well as engaging process.

The second feature of the optimal real Spanish verb conjugator is that the resource is a software product. It really is necessary to learn about five hundred verbs in Spanish to speak Spanish fluently. Additionally , you will need to learn each action-word in, at the very least, 15 different tenses. The only Spanish verb conjugator device that may minimize this challenge of setting up 500 verbs in 15 or maybe more tenses would have to be a software product or gadget. For this reason, books, verb conjugation charts or tables, and flash cards do not have the capability of becoming the optimum romance language verb conjugation tool.

The next and final required element of the best Spanish verb conjugation instrument is that the tool is actually fun and interesting to use and practice with. Lets face it. Understanding the way to conjugate Spanish verbs is really a tedious as well as monotonous activity. Nevertheless it’s important for the learner to try the drills of conjugating verbs continuously so that he or she can learn how to conjugate and put together Spanish verbs. By causing the task of Spanish verb drilling to become a enjoyable and fun exercise, the student is going to be encouraged to repeatedly perform exercise after exercise.

The herein-mentioned three components are features that would make the optimal Spanish verb conjugation product. To sum up, the ideal Spanish verb conjugator device ought to include sound, be a software item, and also be entertaining and amusing to use.
